Puerto Rico have qualified in five of the last seven FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championships. In the last NORCECA tournament, they finished in fourth place. Their youth team is an essential part of the Puerto Rico national programme, which is one of the few in the world that have qualified in both the men’s and women’s tournaments of the FIVB Volleyball World Championships. The youth team endured the seven-month long hard training. The team has a simple goal to make it to the second round of the competition and are aiming to improve their best ever finish at fourth place in 1995 in any other World Championship tournaments. Julio Ruvira will make his World Championship debut as coach of the Mexican team.
